Iggy Pop and Josh Homme performed a surprise show at the Teregram Ballroom in Los Angeles the other night in support of their Post Pop Depression album.
The rock super group lead by Iggy Pop of the Stooges and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles Of Death Metal have been tearing up the scene and lighting up the music world ever since the release of their new album, Post Pop Depression. It is safe to say that the once secretly recorded album has now become anything but that and the buzz around this group has been heard by all. The rest of the group consists of Queens of the Stone Age’s Troy Van Leeuwen and Dean Fertita, Arctic Monkeys’ Matt Helders and Chavez’s Matt Sweeney. Their enthusiasm is justifiable by the fact that Pop has said that this could be his last and final work to wrap up his illustrious and iconic career. The record is streaming in full via NPR. The other night the group played a surprise gig at the Teregram Ballroom in Los Angeles. Apparently they love the element of surprise as the show was unannounced to anyone prior as was the creation of the album. During this show they obviously played a lot from their Post Pop Depression album but they also ripped into cover of Pop’s classic “Lust for Life,” as reported by Pitchfork. The reason that this cover was particularly special was its relation to David Bowie. The song was off of Pop’s second solo album from 1977 and was also the second collaboration he did with Bowie.
