The experimental hip hop group Dälek have returned with a music video for their single “Guaranteed Struggle”. The track, which premiered on Noisey, is featured on the industrial rap trio’s hypnotic LP Asphalt for Eden. Dälek attacks hip hop with a dissonant electronic edge, creating a sound unlike any heard before. Asphalt for Eden, Dälek’s first full-length album since 2009, is dropped on April 22.
Dälek is acclaimed as a groundbreaking pioneer in the underground hip-hop scene, unleashing five landmark releases over the span of 11 years. Since launching their debut album in 1997, the legendary New Jersey-based group crafted a unique sound labeled everything from metal to alternative rock.
In 2011, Dälek announced an indefinite hiatus as members recovered from over a decade of rigorous full-time touring and recording. While globally championing the release of their albums, the group shared the stage with influential artists like KRS One, Tomahawk, The Melvins, Dillinger Escape Plan, Pharcyde, and more.
Fast forward to 2015, when mastermind and producer Will Brooks revived Dälek with a resurrected lineup that highlights co-producer Mike Manteca and DJ rEk. The highly anticipated Asphalt for Eden embodies a new peak of genre-fusing creativity and mind-bending lyricism.
Dälek’s reemergence is marked by the iconic, atmospheric tension and texture of their artistry. A press release elaborates that “their intriguing sound…fuses a blend of progressive hip-hop artistry supported by a rhythmic backdrop consisting of sonic experimentation through noise music and dark ambience.”
