BABYMETAL @ The Electric Factory 5/7

BABYMETAL have been making waves in the metal world since their 2014 debut. The all-girl-fronted Japanese group melds heavy metal with Japanese teen-pop. Which, for some, has caused quite an uproar. Adding to that, it has been noted that none of the young members even knew what metal music was prior to the inception of the band. Nonetheless, their 2014 self-titled debut was met with critical approval, selling over 37,000 copies their first week in Japan, and debuting at number 2 on Billboard Japan. The album also found success here in the states, topping the iTunes Metal charts and making its way onto the Billboard 200.

But the young women of BABYMETAL truly found their breakthrough this past year. The trio of 16 and 17 year olds had sold out shows across the US and received several awards. And in July, they were the first Japanese act to ever grace the cover of Metal Hammer. For a taste of why they’ve been so successful, one need look no further than their hugely successful video for their debut track, “Gimme Chocolate!!

Their sophomore release, Metal Resistance, is set to drop on April 1st, followed by an extensive world tour. The tour will head our way on May 7th, with a show at The Electric Factory.
