Indie rock band The Kills has announced a new album called Ash & Ice, set to be released on June 3rd of this year through Domino Records. The band has not put out a new album since Blood Pressures back in 2011, their fourth studio album. Ash & Ice‘s recording mainly took place in a rented house in LA as well as at the famous Electric Lady Studios in NYC.
The band’s hiatus is largely due to Jamie Hince, the guitarist of the band, who actually had to re-learn how to play guitar after dealing with several surgeries on his hand along with a permanently damaged finger. During his recovery, Hince went on a solo trip via the Trans-Siberian Express to work on poetry for the new album.
To go along with the announcement of the release date of their new album, The Kills has also released the first single off the album “Doing It To Death” along with a video for the song. In the video, a funeral is taking place with mourners similar to Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal.” “Doing It To Death” is the first track on the upcoming album.
The video was shot in Los Angeles last month and was directed by Wendy Morgan. To top it all off, The Kills will also be going on tour this spring/summer, starting out in Mexico in just a couple weeks and ending in August in Poland playing at the Off Festival.
