According to it’s homepage, SXSW Music will continue the tradition of its free outdoor shows this month at SXSW Outdoor Stage 2016. This year, top billing on this stage will go to prog-rock act Coheed and Cambria. The performance is a stop in Coheed’s ongoing North American tour.
The group recently released a haunting cover of Adele’s Hello, along with their eighth studio album, The Color Before the Sun, which took a new approach to their lyrics and conceptual creation. Sci-fi themes and musical epics give way to tighter arrangements and more personal, reflective lyrics. The album spawned singles “Island” and “Eraser” in 2015.
Wolfmother will provide support for Coheed and Cambria at the Outdoor Stage. The group, best known for their 2005 hit “Woman,” recently released their fourth full-length album Victorious. Opening the show will be West Coast surf-rockers, Tijuana Panthers, playing in support of their album POSTER. Tijuana will kick off at 5:00PM, followed by Philadelphia indie group band Beach Slang.
The SXSW Outdoor Stage at Lady Bird Lake will see a three-day (March 17-19) series of philanthropical concert events, and is expected to bring in 50,000 attendees. With a Guest Pass, the show is free of charge to the public. Guests with Music and Platinum badges or Showcasing Artist Wristbands will have access to hospitality area at the Lady Bird Lake Stage, which includes benefits such as conference programming, exclusive networking events, and expedited access to all SXSW Music showcases.
