Beach House has added what they are calling “Installation shows” to their recently announced 2016 tour.
UPDATE: Beach House has expanded their tour and will now stay on the road through September. An updated touring list can be found below.
Beach House has just recently announced a 2016 tour in support of last year’s Depression Cherry and Thank Your Lucky Stars. Now they are announcing additional shows to be interwoven into the announced that will break up the monotony of the big stages that their headlining tour was seeing them on. They are calling these shows “installation shows” and they will be held at smaller venues, such as art galleries, community centers, etc. this spring. According to Pitchfork, Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally will perform a continuous set that is comprised of songs from their self-titled debut, Devotion, and Thank Your Lucky Stars within a “design” of their own creation. For a full list of tour dates and all ticketing information see below.
These installation shows are being stressed by the group as “by no means ‘stripped down’ or intentionally intimate” but the events will have a 200 audience member cap on them. The cap is so that everyone can see the set up that Beach House will feature and also the fact that audience members are going to have to sit on the floor, due to the lack of a stage. The band actually jokingly noted in the press release that audience members should “bring a pillow” to the shows. The ticket prices for these shows will be higher than their regular shows due to the small venues and the high level of production costs. “The ticket price is set as low as possible in order to cover our costs and not lose money on the show,” Beach House said. “We sincerely apologize if it’s unaffordable for any fans who may want to attend.”
The Band went further into detail about their “Installation Shows,”
It has always been difficult to carry the initial moments of creativity that inspire our music through the process of making and releasing a record. There are many chances along the way for the feeling to get lost. A lot of “bedroom” bands experience this when they get to the studio or the stage. This installation performance is an attempt to elicit this pure, embryonic state of mind for ourselves and our audience.
