A supergroup called Giraffe Tongue Orchestra has been formed, and it’s full of members from big-name bands. The new band includes singer William DuVall from Alice In Chains, guitarist Brent Hinds from Mastodon, guitarist Ben Weinman from Dillinger Escape Plan, bassist Pete Griffin from Dethklok, and drummer Thomas Pridgen formally from Mars Volta.
Alice In Chains has been producing rock music since 1987, and they gained fame as part of the grunge movement in the 1990s. They’ve released five studio albums so far, their latest being The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, released in 2013.
From Atlanta, GA, Mastodon is a heavy metal band that was formed in early 2000 and has all four band members participating in vocals, giving them a unique sound. They’ve got six albums out so far, with Once More ‘Round the Sun released in 2014.
Dillinger Escape Plan is a mathcore band from New Jersey that originated in 1997 and has released five studio albums in their career. Their most recent one was released in 2013, One of Us Is the Killer.
Dethklok is both a virtual band in the animated TV show Metalocalypse and a real melodic death metal band. They’ve had four studio albums so far, with their latest The Doomstar Requiem released in 2013.
Though they disbanded in 2012, Mars Volta was an American rock band from Texas that released six studio albums in their career before their breakup. Now, Thomas Pridgen has spent the past few years as a drummer for a few other bands, his most recent one being California hardcore band Trash Talk.
Originally, the band started with Hinds, Weinman, Griffin, and Pridgen (it was first mentioned in 2011). They began to work on a full-length album, and during their early sessions they were joined by Juliette Lewis, former vocalist of the American rock band Juliette and the Licks. However, the band decided to have DuVall as their lead singer, but Lewis’ vocals will still appear on some of the tracks of the coming album. Eric Avery from Jane’s Addiction was originally going to be on bass, but they’ve since changed that as well. So far, there hasn’t been any idea of when the album will be released, but until then, some videos have been posted on Instagram of the band in the studio. Watch them below:
