According to NME, Smiths guitarist and co-writer Johnny Marr will join forces with Hans Zimmer and perform live with the composer on his upcoming arena tour.
The partnerships should be unsurprising to fans. Far from strangers, the two musicians have benefitted from a long history of collaborating together. Zimmer and Marr worked on soundtrack to a number of blockbuster films such as Inception and The Amazon Spider-Man 2. More recently, the pair formed the soundtrack of Julianne Moore and Ellen Page’s gay rights-drama Freeheld.
Their work, however, extends beyond soundtracks into live performances. In 2010, the duo played together at the Inception premiere. 4 years later, they performed at Zimmer’s 2014 Hammersmith Apollo shows. Now, Marr will serve as guest performer at Zimmer’ shows in Europe. The tour will go international, hitting London, Berlin, Manchester, Dublin and Orange in France.
While Zimmer will stand front and center, Marr has music of his own to promote. In October, the singer released Adrenalin Baby, a live solo album covering performances recorded throughout the past 3 years. A number of the tracks have been taken from his October 2014 performances from the O2 Academy Brixton and Manchester Apollo shows.
