Hippie Sabotage are “two brothers who make music.” And the Sacramento born and bred pair have been making music together for some time now. Their EP Vacants came out in 2013. But in 2014, they received a huge boost from UK sensation, Ellie Goulding, who posted a remix the pair had worked on for Tove Lo’s track “Stay High.” The remix was subsequently released as the fourth single from Tove Lo’s album, Truth Serum. It peaked at number 13 on the Swedish Singles Chart (Tove Lo’s home country).
The song became a massive hit for Tove Lo, making her a pop star almost overnight here in the US. But it actually wasn’t meant to be a single. That is, not until she heard the Hippie Sabotage remix. The singer went on to say, “I just love how [Hippie Sabotage have] made a proper dance remix of the song, but it still has that darkness to it. It’s just the way that they used all the parts. They did a genius job on it.”
But there’s more to these guys than remixing tracks for pop stars. They also have a slew of their own original material. Just take a listen to songs like “Your Soul,” or “Able to See Me” for a taste of what they have to offer. You can catch them here in Philly when they perform at Coda on March 18th. They’ll be bringing along openers Alex Wiley and Kembe X. Tickets for this one are priced at $15 for GA, and $40 for a special meet & great package.
