Circle of Dust, the industrial rock group that reached the height of their fame in the 90s, is ready for a comeback. The band just released “Contagion,” the first new song released by the group in nearly 20 years.
When most people these days picture “electronic” music, they think Skrillex or Zedd. But this track couldn’t be farther from such a comparison. “Contagion” features aggressive guitars that combine with an electronic element to produce the a truly unique industrial sound that is rarely found on the music charts today. Man and the machine complement each other in a way that is not exactly subtle, but also not overtly in your face. It is certainly a breath of fresh air after a nearly two-decade drought.
While the track is the first new music released by the group in many years, it doesn’t mean that the band members have not kept busy. Klayton, now the sole member of Circle of Dust, further sharpened his sleek industrial sound with his other project, Celldweller. He went on to release multiple albums, and Celldweller music was featured in a variety of movie trailers, video games and television shows. Klayton also owns the independent record label FiXT.
Of course, this new track is just the beginning. Klayton has announced that he has obtained the rights to the Circle of Dust catalog, and will be re-releasing remastered versions of all five previously released discs complete with bonus material and new tracks. During the re-release campaign, a new disc will arrive every eight weeks. This leads up to the release of Circle of Dust’s new studio album in December.
The first re-release will be Circle of Dust’s self-titled album, and will be available on March 4. The album has been beautifully remastered with modern sonic precision. In addition, the album will include nearly an hour’s worth of bonus material, including a rare acoustic version of “Onenemy,” raw 4-track cassette demos and a series of unreleased songs, demos and b-sides titled “Dust.” It also includes a remix of the 1992 hit “Nothing Sacred,” along with a bonus single called “Neophyte” from the upcoming studio album.
