President Barack Obama Will Be in Austin For a Democratic Fundraiser During SXSW 2016

According to the Austin Statesman, President Barack Obama will host fundraiser for the Democratic National Convention on Friday, March 11 – the first day of South By Southwest 2016, when the festival will host SXSW Interactive and begin its Film Festival. News broke of the fundraiser when a page on the DNC’s official website added a ticketing page for the event. Those that are interested in attending the fundraiser have several ticketing options: $250.00 per person for a general admission ticket, $500.00 per person for a preferred guest section, $10,000 a couple to attend as guests and receive a photo, and if you are just dying to co-host a DNC Fundraiser event, you can drop $33,400 a couple for those tickets.

Democrat.org provided this description of the event:

Our Party, led by President Obama, is focused on building an economy that lasts—an economy that lifts up all Americans. That’s why Democrats in all 50 states are working in neighborhoods and communities to advance issues like job creation, education, health care, and clean energy.

According to KEYE, the local Austin ABC affiliate, the fundraising event will be hosted at the Austin Music Hall, which is located in the city’s downtown district. While the president’s visit will coincide with SXSW Interactive and, which runs from March 11-15, it will not occur at the same time as the music portion of the festival, which does not begin until March 15 and runs to March 19.

UPDATE (02/24/2016): The rumors of a special guest performer appearing at the fundraiser have been confirmed as J. Cole.

UPDATE (03/11/2016): According to RSVPster on Twitter, an official flyer  has been released for today’s event. Along with J. Cole, who is the musical performer, DJ Mel and Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas will be at the reception. Will.I.Am will serve as a co-host with Honest Dollar CEO Whurley.
