WATCH: Ween Plays First Reunion Show In Colorado

Unclassifiable 90’s group Ween has surprised the music world with a set of comeback shows this month. According to Pitchfork, The band has reunited after 3 year hiatus to perform in the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, CO on February 12 and 13. They will perform two more times in Colorado before announced additional dates. Videos from their gig are surfacing on Youtube, check out the duo’s performance of “Puerto Rican Power” below.

The surprise reunion is but a small story in the group’s long history spanning back to 1984, when Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiondo formed the group after meeting in a typing class. They’ve since released 9 studio albums, 2 compilations, and 15 singles. In their 28 year run, their fandom was never widespread but deep, as they developed a loyal, cultish following. The band has learned from an eclectic group of artists; over the years, critics have noted influences that range from Psychedelic to Punk to New Wave. Undefinable by genre, the men of Ween have distinguished themselves by their sense of wit and penchant for absurdity. Music from all walks of the band’s career made the setlist, which can be seen below.

Aaron Freeman (Gene Ween) discussed his solo project and the possibility of collaborating with Skrillex via Pitchfork.tv. “Skrillex is alright… there might be a dubstep album in the future” he says. “That’s what I’m listening to now.” Freeman’s tone seems vaguely glib, but given his unpredictable tendencies and experimental streak, anything is possible with this artist. Check out the interview and interpret the statements for yourself.
