While the details remain blurry, fans of dance rock group LCD Soundsystem can sleep sound; the band is officially back for good.
According to Pitchfork, Columbia chairman Rob Stringer announced on Friday that the group has signed a deal with the company, although specific details remain unknown. However, the group promised a new album that the band will work on in 2016. The group has not released a single since 2010’s “I Can Change.” Refresh your memory with the video below.
The news comes as a surprise to many fans. In 2011, the James Murphy-led band took a hiatus after a final performance in Madison Square Garden. For years, the group remained quiet, leading followers to believe them to be retired. Murphy mentioned in January that he encountered inspiration for new material throughout hiatus and became restless from the songs trapped to the confines of his mind.
Soundsystem eventually resurfaced in December to break our hearts with their new single and subsequently piece them back together with the announcement of their return to the festival circuit in 2016. The group’s schedule includes headline slots at Primavera Sound, WayHome, and Coachella, among many other performances.
