Summer is a time for fun in the sun, partying on the beach, late nights and even later mornings, and today, a bit of news has been announced that will take that average summer and kick it into higher gear. Yeasayer has announced today, after revealing the complete album artwork for their forth studio album “Amen & Goodbye“, that  they will be performing a full tour throughout Europe which starts off in the United Kingdom and includes one stop in the US at Shaky Beats Music festival with more North American headline shows to be announced.

The artwork is a tableau of sculptures, actors and digital images by the New York-based Canadian artist David Altmejd, who worked directly with the group to create the record sleeve. This album cover depicts Moloch, an ancient god of child sacrifice, a silent movie starlet, a breastfeeding mother, characters from the band’s songs past and present, and various other pop-culture and religious characters all taking the stage for this cover art. When asked about what the band’s opinion was regarding their new album they stated “It’s Sgt Pepper meets Hieronymous Bosch meets Dali meets PeeWee’s Playhouse” accurately comparing their new album cover to the classic Beatles LP. “I’m not very comfortable thinking about image and graphic design.” says Almejd, whose artwork is a strong influence on the group,  “I decided to offer them a sort of landscape filled with as many details as possible.  I thought about a series of objects that would be inspired by characters that came from Yeasayer’s albums… but also characters that come from the news.  There’s really fake looking sculptures, there’s printouts representing cartoony characters, there’s naked people… For me what’s very important is that the image offers enough visually for people to be really absorbed in the observation of details.”

The band’s tour will very likely mirror the loose concept of the album providing an underlying narrative informed by religion and transcendence, the afterlife and the search for meaning, fans will be more than ecstatic to see their favorite band tear it up on the stage again and yield an even more extravagant summer to music lovers and festival goers of all types.
