Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Europe’s largest free ticketed festival, will be taking place on May 28th and 29th this year, and they’ve got some big headliners – Coldplay, Bring Me The Horizon, and Chase & Status, just to name a few. The festival will take place at Exeter’s Powderham Castle in Devon, England, and will also be broadcast live on Radio 1 and streamed as well. Coldplay has stated that playing at the festival will mean a lot to him because he was born and raised in Exeter, so in a way this show will be a homecoming for him.
Coldplay headlining the show is huge, what with the band’s performance at the Super Bowl this year, involving collaborations with Beyoncé sand Bruno Mars. The British rock band released their seventh studio album A Head Full of Dreams just this past December, which included vocals from Beyoncé, Tove Lo, and other big names. Coldplay has been around since 1996, with seven studio albums to show for it and countless successful sold-out shows and tours across the world. The band announced in November that they plan to go on their seventh concert tour (A Head Full of Dreams Tour) this year. Production will start in March, and the band plans to visit various countries throughout Europe, Latin America, Asia, and North America.
Since 2003, British rock band Bring Me The Horizon has produced five studio albums that have come with much commercial success. Their latest album, That’s The Spirit, was released in September of last year. Though the band typically had a foundation in metalcore music, this album tended towards a less aggressive rock style. The album is intended to be a loose concept album about the darker parts of life, such as depression, and how to make light of those moments. It received great reviews from critics, though some were disappointed to see the band move away from their traditional sound. A little over a month ago, the band released an acoustic version of their song “Drown”, one of their singles off That’s The Spirit. Check out the video here.
Chase & Status, a British electronic music production duo, formed in 2003 and have released three studio albums so far. They have collaborated with such big names as Rihanna, Cee Lo Green, and Tinie Tempah, and they run the independent record label MTA Records. Their most recent album, Brand New Machine, was released in 2013 and features collaborations with several different artists, including Major Lazer and Pusha T. Shortly after the release of the album, the duo went on an arena tour and headlined 1Xtra Live at the Bournemouth International Centre.
