The Lumineers Announce New Album Cleopatra For April 2016 Release

The beloved Lumineers have announced after four years of near silence that they will be releasing a new album, Cleopatra through Dualtone, an Entertainment One company, on April 8th.

Check out their first single Ophelia:

Bandmembers Wesley Schultz, Jeremiah Fraites and Neyla Pekarek had a bit of a title to uphold it seems with their first album hitting so high out of the water. The Album spent 46 weeks on the Billboard 200 and peaked at #2. Their single “Ho Hey” spent  62 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #3 alone.

It wasn’t four years of complete silence after all. Three out of the four years, the Lumineers toured the seven continents, spreading their music with a personal touch. They also contributed 2 songs to the Hunger Games including The Hanging Tree, and spent some time making some pretty creative music videos. Who could complain after their first album had so many unique and pristine tracks such as Classy Girls with such realistic background noise, one might feel like they are actually in a bar and therefor in the scene of the song, giving it a realistic imagery that not many songs have. The band also has an uncanny ability to combine light hearted folk-style music with a more serious lyrical set like in their track Big Parade that includes a touch of history as well, not to mention their complex poetry that is in so many of their songs. Not only do they have a Folk sound, in several of their songs the band ranges from heartland rock to the narrative end of country. No wonder it took four years to create and mold something such as they have.

The album was produced by Simone Felice (The Felice Brothers, The Avett Brothers) in Clubhouse, a recording studio on a hill in rural Rhinebeck, N.Y., near Woodstock. Yet it took them a while to get even to that point because of how serious they were about perfecting their art:

“We took the same approach this time as we did with the first album, recording demos in a small house we rented in the original Denver neighborhood where we first moved,” Said Wesley “The record is our greatest hits reflecting what’s happened to us over the last three years, we tried to come up with the best possible version of every song, so we recorded a lot of different iterations, changing the tempos, dressing ’em up, stripping ’em down. It took a lot of work to make them sound so easy. We’re very passionate about the process.  It was a very intense and beautiful experience. There was a lot of battling, a lot of tears, but some amazing stuff came out, and at the end, we were much better off.  It transformed our relationship.”
