Welsh alternative rock band The Joy Formidable announced a release date for their anticipated album Hitch and unveiled dates for a supporting spring US tour.

The Joy Formidable, hailed by Rolling Stone as “wickedly bracing and Himalaya-huge”, approached the production of their third studio album with a mission to capture their unique energy on record. Singer and guitarist Ritzy Bryan explained, “We realized we needed to build a space and do it ourselves, go back to being three people in a room again.” Taking the reins, the trio decided to work alongside “people who feel as strong as we do about the music, who listen to albums, love the art and let that take control.”

The upcoming LP, mixed by the legendary Alan Moulder, will be released on Friday, March 25 through their own record label C’Mon Lets Drift in partnership with Caroline (US), Orchard/ Membran (Europe) and MapleMusic (Canada.) The band expressed that “on this album, we’ve been lucky enough to feel that same enthusiasm from everyone involved.”

Hitch scales forward with a haunting minimal style contrasted to the swaggering, earthy tones of bluesy folk, presenting a transformed sound stepping ahead of 2011’s debut The Big Roar and 2013’s Wolf’s Law. Ritzy asserts that the album is “one of the most driving records we’ve made but it’s also the saddest”, one that will transport listeners to worlds “we might not have taken you before”.

Available for pre-order, Hitch features Ralph Steadman’s exclusive artwork and offers access to US tickets and a bonus track, “Passerby”, to those who order the album from the band’s online store.
