It’s 2016, and many of us still can’t disassociate Usher from the Homecoming classic, “Yeah,” as we relive that jarring memory of high school teachers getting crunk on a dance floor. This scarred generation is left asking: Usher, where you at? The answer is Roots Picnic, where Usher (backed by Jimmy Fallon’s house band, The Roots) will be headlining June 4.
The festival announced their lineup Tuesday, featuring Future, Leon Bridges, Blood Orange, Kaytranada, Swizz Beatz, DMX, Willow Smith, Lolawolf, Ibeyi and more — a total of 23 artists — creating a day of all-encompassing music taking place at Philadelphia’s Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing.
Historically a sold-out event, this year’s festival marks the ninth annual Roots Picnic. Last year’s included headliners A$AP Rocky and The Weeknd. In the past, artists such as John Legend, The Black Keys, Vampire Weekend, Kid Cudi, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Gnarls Barkley have taken the stage. The event is coming three days after Leon Bridges finishes up his U.S. tour.
General public tickets go on sale this Friday, Feb. 5 through Ticketmaster. Previous Purchaser’s Presale begins Feb. 3, and a Live Nation Presale begins Feb. 4. All sales begin at 12 p.m. EST.
