Canada artist, California vibes
So many great artists have come from Canada and Classified is no exception. His new album, Greatful, isn’t quite out yet, but a few of his singles from the album have been released periodically.
Luke Boyd, known by his moniker, Classified, started his hip-hop career in 1995 after starting his own production label, Half Life Records where he produced his first LP, Time’s Up, Kid. Classified’s music career has taken Canadian hip-hop around the world. He has released a total of nine albums, each improving on the previous one.
The first official single that became available is “No Pressure” featuring Snoop Dogg. The album is a follow up to a 2013 album, Classified, which is available to download on iTunes.
Greatful is self produced by Classified. In numerous interviews he talks about how this album is something that he’s been working on for a long time and what he’s been looking forward to doing with his music. The Greatful album is a total of 16 tracks.
“No Pressure,” featuring Snoop Dogg, has a similar production to that of Mac Miller. Even though the song talks about the east coast, it is a perfect example of a song someone would play on the beaches of California. The beat is laid back, a perfect song to feature Snoop.
“Having Kids Is Easy” has a very quick flow and a somewhat familiar beat to that of a 50s jive song. His word play in the song is clever, quick but also easy to follow along to. He talks about raising his kids and being able to manage time of being a hip-hop star and a parent. “I’m trying to work so I can pay for that shirt you’re growing out of, baby that’s my motive…my life’s a dream.” Must be hard right?
Canada continues to show us the amount of talent they produce. Classified has put Canadian hip-hop on the map. Classified will be doing tours from coast to coast throughout Canada, so be sure to check him out.
