Kristin Welchez (Dee Dee From Dum Dum Girls) To Start Solo Career

Kristin Welchez, more popularly known as Dee Dee from Dum Dum Girls, has just announced a solo act.

The Dum Dum girls are losing their Dee Dee and the music world is getting Kristin Welchez back. The once main contributor and lead vocalist is shedding her stage name and going back to her first given name of Kristin Welchez as part of solo venture, according to Stereogum. This next step in Welchez’s career will be called Krstin Kontrol. She had this to say about her current career move:

“I wanted to open things up and shed light on significant influences that felt off-limits in Dum Dum land. I don’t want to fight them off anymore. That’d be a drag… The music is so different from anything I’ve ever done — I felt compelled to shed the alter-ego instead of trying to morph Dum Dum Girls into something else. I didn’t want to mess with that legacy.”

Kristin Kontrol will be an electronic effort that mixes R&B, synth pop and krautrock as Welchez explained it. She obviously still has a great respect for her old band but wants to take her talents on a less constricting road. The promo video can be seen below.

Ryan Fricke: Music is my therapy, which I could not function without. I am currently finishing my senior year a Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida with a Journalism major and a Creative Writing Minor. I first realized I wanted to become a Music Journalist the minute I learned that I could get paid to do the two things I love most, writing and listening to music. I have yet to decide which I am more infatuated with but for the time being I will happily house them to their stalemate. My plans after graduation are unclear but I hope to further gain experience in this profession.
