DIIV has just premiered “Is The Is Are,” the title track from their forthcoming sophomore album to be released on Feb. 5 via Captured Tracks.
Like most of DIIV’s work, the new track sounds smooth and dreamy, oozing with reverb and washed out vocals that merge well with the guitar lines driving the song.
While the band has enjoyed a great deal of success since their 2012 debut, Oshin, there has been some controversy after band member Devin Perez posted offensive comments on 4chan in 2014. As reported by Stereogum, in an interview with Pitchfork, DIIV frontman Zachary Cole Smith addressed Perez’s comments, expressing disgust for what many described as bigoted and sexist comments. However, Smith acknowledged he has no plans to remove Perez from the band, as the pair are close friends.
DIIV has also released a few other tracks from the upcoming album, including, “Dopamine,” “Mire (Grant’s Song),” and “Under the Sun.”
The band will be performing four residency shows in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York in support of the new album before embarking on their tour of Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
