Iconic guitarist Zakk Wylde will release his first new solo album in twenty years on April 8 2016. The new album, Book of Shadows II, is the highly anticipated followup to his first and only solo album, Book of Shadows, which was released between his work with Ozzy Osbourne.
While Wylde is best known for his gritty heavy metal sound, he has shown he is not afraid to showcase the lighter side of his music, having spent much of 2015 performing acoustic versions of his Black Label Society releases on the band’s Unblackened tour.
In an interview with Phoenix New Times, Wylde described the upcoming record as “an immersive-type style for Black Label. You know, acoustic, piano, but electric guitar in there as well.” All songs on the upcoming album were recorded in Wylde’s home studio, The Black Vatican.
Book of Shadows II comes as a followup to Black Label Society’s 2014 release, Catacombs of the Black Vatican, released in 2014.
On January 22, Wylde will perform with Zakk Sabbath, his side project with bassist Blasko (Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie) and drummer Joey Castillo (Danzig, Queens of the Stone Age). The trio will be exclusively performing Black Sabbath songs at the Grove of Anaheim.
