Echoes Of The Dreamtime, the new album by singer/songwriter Miranda Lee Richards on Invisible Hands Music, is set to be released on January 29th. Recorded in her home and produced by Rick Parker who has worked with the likes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Lord Huron, the eight track psychedelic folk collection showcases the LA based artist culmination of hard work and dedication.
Born 1987 in San Francisco, Richards grew up attending performing arts school but began her career as a model. After moving to Paris in order to try living that lifestyle Miranda realized that she hated that career path and moved back to her hometown. While living back at home Miranda met Kirk Hammet of Metallica and he gifted her with a guitar, after this she figured out her true passion and moved to Los Angeles in order to become the musician she always wanted to.
After moving to Los Angeles and living in a tent in her friends backyard, Richards used all the connections she had to get herself into the industry, joining the ranks of psychedelic rock troupe The Brian Jonestown Massacre Miranda was able to find her voice in music and figure out where her talents lie. releasing three solo albums of pastoral, psychedelic folk-rock.
Her songs topped charts in international countries and set off the career she always pictured sleeping in her tent under the stars. It was not till six years passed where she finally decided to release a new album, an album that showcases her matured, expanded sound that still retains the whiff of patchouli and the otherworldly glow of dark lamps.
Radio station KCRW premiered “First Light of Winter,” the second single to be released from the album on air today. Eric J. Lawrence, one of the radio station’s top hosts, exclaimed that the new album “expands, matures and solidifies her sound” which he describes as “pastoral, psychedelic folk-rock.”
Richards describes the track as “about the first waning of the light in the fall, signaling the potential danger ahead. Heading into winter time ill-prepared, you find yourself in a very dangerous and precarious situation that only the strong will survive. The song is about flirting with darkness and all the resisting and trying that goes into avoiding it. You are using every tool you have at that time, but they aren’t working, and you finally hit bottom. Once you’re there, you have no choice but to surrender to the pain and regret of mistakes and circumstance. It is ironically, at that point, that you learn the lessons that allow you to begin the ascension process, releasing victimhood. It is about surviving a deep depression, and being all the stronger, and wiser for it.”
With her return on this new album Miranda Lee Richards has solidified her spot in the psychedelic folk community, and with any luck she will bring her talents on the road for a future tour.
