Father John Misty, aka Josh Tillman, has become one of indie music’s most popular artists. His music is consistently great, his videos are out there and it doesn’t hurt that he’s got a great sense of humor too.
At a recent show in Australia, Misty used the encore to answer questions from the audience. Consequence of Sound reported that Misty shared the recent audio from the gig. “Thank you for going through the motions of this ritual devoid of meaning called the encore,” Misty said. “This brazen image of spontaneity.” Instead of playing a few songs, he went from a wide range of questions, from how sex works, if tank tops can have sleeves and other various topics.

Father John Misty also made an appearance at the 4th Annual Merry Minstrel Musical Circus in Los Angeles the other night. Pitchfork reports that he performed an updated version of John Lennon’s “God”, updating the lyrics to have more contemporary references. In his version, Tillman claims he doesn’t believe in President Barack Obama, Facebook, Star Wars, and more.
