Feelings we’ve all had
There’s something about the fast paced, heart racing, adrenaline producing fundamentals of punk and hardcore that breed a particular allurement comparable to that of a hard drug. Once you get into it, a continual fix is now dire – for the circle pits, for the relatable and relevant lyrical messages, for the familial sense of unity. It’s addicting. Providence, Rhode Island band FUCKING INVINCIBLE have been the aural substance of choice for many. With the band’s members consisting of those from other Providence bands like Daughters, Sweet Jesus, and Drop Dead to boot, years of East Coast mentality have been “powerviolencely” beaten into a brash tonality executed in short winded spurts. The band’s third EP and seventh addition to their discography, I Hate Myself and I Want You To Die, follows in suit with their tradition of raucous, relentless hardcore punk.
Much like the rest of their collection, the new EP is considerably short, clocking in a total runtime of just around seven minutes. It may seem impossible to properly express the necessary points in so little time, yet FUCKING INVINCIBLE have made it an integral part of their method.
Debuting the opening track off the EP first, “Cross-Uncross” set the disordered tone for what followed. Songs clamor in and out of existence within a matter of seconds, inciting ferocity with their specific ease. The malignity carries on throughout, reaching its peak during the 55 seconds of “Feeder,” a seething track eliciting everyone’s deep seeded, primal need to punch someone in the face. “Like A Child” stands out not only for being the longest of the eight, but also for elementally spanning punk, hardcore, powerviolence, thrash, and metal.
I Hate Myself and I Want You To Die is repulsive and wicked, in the best sense of the words, and wouldn’t be anything of worth if it wasn’t. FUCKING INVINCIBLE are set to tour in support of the EP in 2016, coinciding with their partaking in Detroit’s Berserker Fest.
