WATCH: Landlady And Wilco’s Nels Cline Cover “Manic Depression” By The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Experimental rockers Landlady, along with veteran Wilco guitarist Nels Cline performed a live cover version of Jimi Hendrix staple “Manic Depression”.

As expected given the participants, this is not a straight version of the song. Instead, Cline and the band mold the song into a left-of-center tour de force, including additional keyboard parts, atonal guitar soloing, and a more orchestrated feel overall. It all works rather well, despite not having the classic, slinky Hendrix groove powering the song. Check it out.

This isn’t Cline’s first time paying tribute to a well-known classic rock artist. He took part in The Complete Last Waltz Show in November of 2014, which honored The Band. Of course, Cline is still member of Wilco, who will soon be undergoing a winter tour in support of their new LP, Star Wars, released earlier this year.

Landlady currently have a pair of LPs out. Their latest, Upright Behavior, was released in 2014. The cover was also performed in their hometown of Brooklyn, NY.
