If anyone has had a stout, they should know its bitter and its dark and it is high in the alcohol content. But the band Opeth has taken the stout to new angle and made the beer in celebration of their 25 Anniversary. Opeth is the latest band launch a signature anniversary beer. The Imperial Stout that was brewed for the memorable occasion is limited to only 1,700 bottles.
The Imperial Stout made by Opeth is not for those who fall under the lightweight category of the weakest of tongues. The Stout contains a 9.2 percent alcohol volume. The taste and flavoring of the stout makes it sound more like a gourmet stout made for the special occasion with hints of rich chocolate, cinder toffee and coffee undertones. Frontman Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth stated in an interview why the band decided to make a beer for the memorable occassion at the location of the beer’s origins the Northern Monk in the United Kingdom. “So when we were approached by the fantastic Northern Monk brewery to do a Opeth signature beer, we simply could not turn it down,” said Akerfeldt about the beer making opportunity with Northern Monk, “They have great ideas and make great beer. And now it’s ready. One is a top-of-the-line Imperial stout that can be matured up to about 25 years. We’ll also have a lovely pale ale out in early 2016.”
Opeth’s Imperial Stout is priced at twelve pounds a bottle. The Stout is already out of stock and the online purchases have ceased, but fans and beer lovers alike can pre-order the Pale Ale that comes out next year through Northern Monks website.
