Last week at New York City’s Terminal 5, surprise guest Fred Armisen joined Sleater-Kinney onstage to perform a cover of The B-52’s “Rock Lobster.” Armisen played the cowbell and shared vocal duties with the rest of the trio during the infectiously energetic seven minute performance.
Armisen should be a familiar face for many fans of Sleater-Kinney, as he has been collaborating with Carrie Brownstein since 2011 on their popular IFC sketch comedy show Portlandia. He also serves as leader of The 8G Band on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Sleater-Kinney have been on tour for the last year in support of No Cities to Love, their first new album since 2005. The band has received near universal acclaim since reuniting in 2014 following an eight year hiatus. While the band has no new shows for the rest of December and January, Australian fans can look forward to a string of upcoming shows starting in late February.
