Sia has released a new track from her forthcoming album This Is Acting, called “Cheap Thrills”. Previously, Sia has released several tracks from the album including, “Alive”, “Bird Set Free”, and “One Million Bullets”.
This Is Acting is a concept album based on Sia‘s songs made for but rejected by other A list artists. “Cheap Thrills” was originally intended for Rihanna. Adele turned down the single “Alive”. While, “Bird Set Free” was intended for the Pitch Perfect 2 soundtrack. Sia has been successfully writing songs for artists from Adele to Beyonce for years. She says, “I feel like they’re hits, but nobody wanted them, so I thought, let’s see, as an experiment, if I’m right.”
This Is Acting is due for official release on January 29, 2015.
Commenting on “Cheap Thrills” Sia says, “I realised just as soon as I was cutting it that it sounded a little bit too Brit-pop for her. It’s more Icona Pop. We did actually send it to her, but they passed on it and then I just couldn’t stop listening to it in the car… It felt very summer and fun, and I was like, “I’ll put that on [the album].” The description is very accurate and unlike most of Sia’s previous songs. However, the upcoming album is Sia acting.
