With his signature tooth gap, Viceroy hat, and a cigarette in hand, Mac DeMarco has taken indie rock by a storm. 2015 has been a jam packed year for young, 25 year old, Mac DeMarco, releasing one instrumental album Some Other Ones and a mini-LP titled, Another One. Mac has a lovable, goofy personality which has landed him friends with one of music’s most eccentric and controversial artists, Tyler, the Creator. Not only has Mac’s music brought him to the top of the indie world, but his unique personality is the extra push that got him there.
Surprisingly, Mac’s turbulent personally doesn’t fit with his soothing music. Most likely you’d find Mac joking about farts and penises like a middle school boy, while another side of him belts out love songs like Together and Let My Baby Stay. Mac sings, “In time she’ll see that her and me were meant to be together.” Something about balancing a raunchy side and sensitive side is relatable and appealing and is maybe an aspect that makes Mac so intriguing.
Mix wonky guitar with calming vocals, and you’ve got a sound like Mac’s. Mac’s music is nothing revolutionary and out there, but it’s damn good. Though you wouldn’t expect to mosh to his music, prepare yourself for mosh pits at any Mac DeMarco show. The crowds at his shows get pretty intense, just a warning from an experienced Mac DeMarco concert-goer. Stay safe and have a blast at the show!
