Rocktronica duo, Ratatat just revealed their latest video: “Pricks of Brightness, ” via Tidal. Taken from this year’s excellent, Magnifique, the video predominantly issues random, nonsensical vignettes to the course of one tantalizing-tune.
Helmed under the directorship of CANADA’s own Luis Cervero, the clip displays a man getting caught in the game of accidentally stabbing his hand juxtaposed with a woman fashioning graffiti on the sidewalk while Ratatat themselves perform to a varying assortment of people unamused.
Eloquently filmed in a wide-array of locations spread throughout Paris, France, the concept-video appears to bare no concept at all. Riddled by a curmudgeon of non-sequitur sequences, the images unveil an almost whimsical appeal which may very well have been Cervero’s creative-intention after-all.
The director, Luis Cervero explains the video…
“is the result of many conversations with the band about the meaning of making instrumental music, and also about the idea of meaning in itself, what meaning exactly means or how meaningless meaning can be.”
Ratatat is currently touring internationally through keynote-stops in India and the like before closing-out the year at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium for their New Year’s celebration. Having recently extended next year’s North American tour, the Brooklyn-gang will fly through the east coast come January 13th.
