The date of new three-day festival Panorama has been moved from June. Set to unleash in Queens in summer 2016, the highly anticipated New York music fest currently has no new date due to Goldenvoice/AEG’s permit issues. According to Brooklyn Vegan, several bands, such as LCD Soundsystem, are rearranging their performance schedules for the coming year while booking new New York shows for June.
The Panorama Festival, originally planned to unleash in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, is expected to be one of the largest events in Queens since the 1964 World’s Fair.
After news of Panorama was unveiled near the end of September, competing NYC music fest Governors Ball responded negatively and even released a petition asking Mayor Bill de Blasio to reject AEG’s proposal, stating, “The timing of this proposed event is an aggressive, greedy attempt by AEG to push a small independent company of born and bred New Yorkers out of business and out of the market.” Later, it was discovered that MSG is also planning an event in Queens’ Flushing Meadows Corona.
As the live-entertainment division of the Los Angeles-based Anschutz Entertainment Group, AEG Live is involved in the touring, sponsorship, festival, and broadcasting facets of live contemporary music performance. The concert promoters behind Coachella, Firefly, Bumbershoot, and Hangout Fest unleashed other festivals around New York City, including All Points West in Jersey City.
