After a four-year absence, Ween will be returning for a pair of shows early next year. Staple members Aaron Freeman (Gene Ween) and Mickey Melchiondo, Jr. (Dean Ween), will be joined by past members, drummer Clyde Coleman, Jr., bassist Dave Dreiwitz, and keyboardist Glen McClelland.
In 2014, Freeman admitted that the band had already been broken up for a significant period of time at the time of the official announcement in 2012. Freeman cited his own addictions and substance abuse problems in the face of touring and recording forhis departure from the group. He still continued to make music, with the 2014 release of his solo band’s LP Freeman.
Melchiondo has been active since the initial breakup as well, touring and recording as a solo artist, and with his band Moistboyz. In 2012, he caught up with mxdwn to discuss Ween’s breakup and charter fishing.
As for the reunion itself, fans can expect the band to be playing some deeper cuts from the band’s catalog, which will include “new stuff that nobody has heard live before.”
With well over a dozen live and studio albums dating back to 1984 to the band’s credit, they will have a large selection to choose from. It is sure to be one of the most anticipated reunion shows for 2016.
