Sia and Maddie Ziegler made the musicians recent performance on Ellen come to life. “Alive” is the new single from Sia’s album This Is Acting. Maddie Ziegler has done previous performances for Sia’s music videos to “Elastic Heart” and “Chandelier.”
Although you do not see much of Sia herself in the performance, you do hear her singing behind the dress on the wall. The teenage dancer, Maddie, however is dressed to be dancing figure of Sia, with the Cruella de Vil wig of black and white parts, choreographed to shatter glass, twirl, spin, and flip with the words and music that was playing in the background. The video is meant to be an intense and emotional performance that captures the need of survival and the becoming of life itself, the struggle to grow and develop into a person or an animal capable of responding to judgments appropriately and even capable to creating forms of life for the benefit of passing on certain traits. But this video and this song is not about the biology of animal and human survival, but the survival of Sia herself. It is subjective to describe her struggles and objective to the sense that anyone can perfectly relate to these kinds of struggles.
In the music video to “Alive“, there is young girl who performs karate and fighting scenes with that Cruella headpiece, showing the fearlessness of the warrior Sia. This Is Acting is due out January of next year from RCA records, it is Sia’s fourth upcoming album.
