Run The Jewels have released a video for the track “Rubble Kings Theme (Dynamite)”, released in October. The track will be released as part of the companion album to the Rubble Kings documentary, which documents the economic and social struggles in 1970s New York City.
The video depicts an animated view into the urban conflicts that arose from the gang warfare of the time period. The imagery is desolate; broken down inner-city homes, apathetic cops, youthful gangs hanging around drinking beers and smoking cigarettes, waiting around for to fight their rivals. The video culminates in a subway station brawl between the protagonist’s gang and their foes.
The music is a suitable addition. An industrial type instrumental, with a classic New York flow from Killer Mike on top of it. In this case, the simplicity works given the historical subject matter.
We last heard from the group earlier this year on Meow The Jewels, the remix album for their second LP, released in 2014.
The Rubble Kings companion album, also featuring hip-hop acts such as Bun B and Ghostface Killah will be released January 15 via Mass Appeal.
