Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, a duo from Seattle, Washington, have emerged as a premier national hip-hop group known for their electrifying live shows, expertly crafted music, and innovative music videos and media. After years of building momentum with impassioned support from their devoted fan base, 2012 was a banner year for the group, kicked off by Macklemore’s feature in XXL’s Freshman Class. They broke new ground by independently releasing their debut full-length album, The Heist, which shot into the #1 spot on iTunes and debuted at #2 on the Billboard charts without the support of a traditional record label. Its “Thrift Shop” topped the Billboard Hot 100, and the album eventually reached platinum sales status.
In 2015, Macklemore announced via Twitter that the duo’s second studio album will be released sometime in the second half of the year. On August 5th, 2015, Macklemore released a song for free download titled “Growing Up (Sloane’s Song),” which features Ed Sheeran. On August 27, 2015, they released “Downtown”, the first single of their upcoming second studio album. The song features old-school rap legends Melle Mel, Kool Moe Dee, and Grandmaster Caz, which the duo performed at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards on August 30.
As they are gearing up to release their next album, get ready to see them come to Austin again. They will be playing Bass Concert Hall on January 13. Don’t miss out!
