WATCH: Majical Cloudz Release New Video For “Game Show”

Indie pop duo Majical Cloudz have shared a new music video for “Game Show,” a track from their Are You Alone? album, released in October 2015.

Over the past year, Majical Cloudz have released several tracks and videos for tracks that appear on their latest album. They shared the title track of the LP in late September, shortly before the album was released. Majical Cloudz has also released two videos prior to “Game Show,” one of which is for “Silver Car Crash” which has an eerie quality but was artistically filmed in black and white. The follow-up to that, for “Downtown,” is also in black and white but presented a more joyful sound and vibe than the previous song and video.

“Game Show” is no different from the other two in at least one regard: the Canadian duo’s latest video was shot in black and white. The sound of the track is simplistic, with a droning in the background, and Devon Welsh’s vocals in the foreground. Matthew Otto, the other half of Majical Cloudz, handles the instrumentals. The video itself is also simplistic, focusing almost entirely on the artists’ performance, though it lacks dancing or any other outright entertaining aspect. Neither the song nor the video could be described as upbeat or poppy, but it’s mellow in the same way that The Smiths’ music is, with a twinge of darkness to it. Watch the new visual in full below.

Majical Cloudz has also been on people’s minds this year for another reason – director Mitch Moore had worked with the duo on a video that went unreleased due to creative differences between the parties, but the story doesn’t end there. Moore claims that the video for The Weeknd’s “I Can’t Feel My Face” was a result of plagiarism of the unreleased Majical Cloudz video. He seems to believe that someone in a position of power in the industry saw the unreleased cuts and changed it up slightly to make the video for The Weeknd’s hit song. Neither the R&B artist nor director Grant Singer responded to the allegations, but Majical Cloudz took to Twitter to clear their own names of any accusations.
