LISTEN: Kiran Leonard Releases New Song “Pink Fruit”

Singer-songwriter Kiran Leonard has released a track called “Pink Fruit” that runs a full 16 minutes, so be prepared for the full experience before you hit ‘play.’

“Pink Fruit” is the first single from Leonard’s new album Grapefruit and the second track in the eight-song lineup. The 20-year-old artist has been called “prolific, wunderkind, savant,” according to Stereogum. He has been sharing music on Bandcamp since 2012 and has since been known as an eccentric risk-taker in terms of his music. The Manchester, UK, native has listed among his influences the Dirty Projectors, Deerhoof and some decidedly less straightforward inspirations, like “the end of “eraserhead” where [spoiler] the baby dies and the whole of henry’s apartment fills with mashed potato” and “a lack of professional percussion equipment.”

Leonard’s new 16-minute single isn’t a chore to listen to despite it’s length. He has good vocals that are anything but monotonous, and the song changes pace, volume and tone several times to keep listeners on their toes. Leonard’s style will not be for everyone, but for those who are already fans or who are looking for something new and different, “Pink Fruit” will be a fun listen. He almost seamlessly combines sounds from many genres, including experimental rock, grunge and alt rock. Check out “Pink Fruit” below.

Grapefruit will be Leonard’s sixth release, following the five that are already on his Bandcamp page: 2012’s The End Times, 2013’s Oakland Highball EP, 2014’s Spring Rounds and Terreiro de Paço, and 2015’s Abandoning Noble Goals EP. The latest release from Leonard should be interesting if “Pink Fruit” is any indication.
