Swedish electronic artist and DJ Avicii has released a new music video for his song “Broken Arrows,” a track he collaborated on with Zac Brown.
“Broken Arrows” is a single from the recently released Stories album, which Avicii dropped in October. The video opens with the text “Inspired by a True Story,” and is set in 1967 in Fairmont, California. A young girl practices gymnastics outside the trailer she shares with her father, who seems to be an Olympic athlete himself. The parts of the video following the father’s story are dark and somewhat pessimistic, while the scenes featuring the daughter are uplifting and hopeful. The lyrics of the song also represent both sides of the story, with lines like “I see the hope in your heart.” The beat by Avicii keeps the upbeat pace of the song while Zac Brown’s country vocals bring emotion to the track. The video was directed by Nigerian-American filmmaker Julius Onah, who has done several short films during his career. His debut feature was 2015 thriller The Girl is in Trouble, which was executive produced by Spike Lee and starred Wilmer Valderrama and Jesse Spencer. He is currently working on a feature called The God Particle with producer J.J. Abrams.
Avicii’s sophomore album Stories features collaborations with artists such as System of a Down’s Serj Tankian, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and rappers Matisyahu and Wyclef Jean, among others. He also performed at the 2015 Ultra Music Festival in March.
