End of Love has released a new cut titled “Fade Away.” The track will appear on the group’s upcoming LP Ghosts On The Radio, out Dec. 11 on Vitalic Noise.
The three core members of the group are Jay Deegan, Irwin Menken and Jody Stephens. The group’s roots stretch back to around 2002 when Stephens was touring with the classic power pop band Big Star, met Menken who was on the road with Lee Rinaldo of Sonic Youth. The two added a New York guitarist a year later and the core group of songwriters for the group was formed.
The upcoming album will include over a dozen collaborators working with the band on certain tracks. “Fade Away” features singer-songwriter Skylar Gudasz on vocals and Wilco keyboardist Mikael Jorgensen, and guitarist Nels Cline.
The combination of clean guitar, and tasteful synths make for a strong instrumental base. The vocal hook recalls to mind the pop sensibilities of a band like Stephens’ Big Star, and the song in general has a distinct alt-country feel.
Don’t be surprised if the album as a whole takes a low-key approach to the songwriting. It certainly won’t mean a drop in quality, if “Fade Away” is any indication. With the years of experience between the band members and collaborators, expect the record to be heavy on melodies and song craft, and to appear on numerous annual best-of lists just before the year comes to a close.
