Savannah, GA’s own horror-pop guru’s, the Casket Girls just dropped the latest cut, “Deep Time” to further push the arrival of their forthcoming split-EP with The Flaming Lips’ side-gig, Stardeath and White Dwarfs, What Keeps You Up At Night via Graveface Records. Scheduled as the Girls’ very own contribution to Record Store Day’s Black Friday on November 27, the new single is the second-taste this month to celebrate the imminent-EP’s release; the first-song being aptly titled: “Western World.”
Boasting a hair-raising sound not easily defined through conventional means, the Casket Girls mesh the ubiquitous talents of sisters: Phaedra and Elsa Greene to don trope ethereal. Still fresh in the wake of their superb full length, The Piano Album, “Deep Time” cleverly conceives their brooding sensibilities with scientific theory.
The Casket Girls‘ Elsa Greene dispels a haunted-core of calming-affliction sharing their new song with Consequence of Sound:
“Outside of my sister and my eternal obsession with the collective unconscious, we really didn’t know what this song was about until after we wrote it.”
Elsa continues with the cut’s conception:
“We had the concept of deep time in mind, and the rest came to be in a stream of consciousness fashion. Then literally the evening of the very day it was written, our cousin told us a story about our deceased great-grandfather that chilled us to the bone. We had basically written the song from the perspective of his lifelong mistress that we had no idea even existed until that evening. It’s moments like these that keep the fire burning.”
