Miley Cyrus and the Flaming Lips toured together for her album, Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz. At the first concert in Chicago, it was the kickoff to the rest of the tour. During one particular portion of the concert, Miley comes out in unicorn suit and then mentions her Happy Hippie Foundation, a project to help the homeless LBGTQ youth, after her song “Evil Is But A Shadow.” But the one thing about the tour was when Dan Deacon opened for Cyrus before she even started. Even though his performance was only an hour long, he stole the first act like it was the chorus in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet that already gave you the scene. Luckily though, Wayne Coyne and the Flaming Lips came out after some gold-clad dancers began to shimmer and make Deacon disappear.

Even though Dan Deacon stole the extra thirty minutes from the Flaming Lips appearance, his glitters went gold and the electronic music that got everyone into the captivating mode were all ready for Cyrus when she came out in bedazzled shirts and ripped up jeans to even some of the well known costumes that we remember from the MTV music awards. If anything, Deacon was like the small nibbles you would eat before meal, the Flaming Lips were just the appetizer and Cyrus was the main course with desert. But it was a shimmering performance for the beginnings of the Dead Petz tour.
