Natalie Prass is putting her cover of Grimes’ “REALiTi” out into the world today. Tomorrow, Prass releases her new EP, Side By Side.
The cover is simple yet powerful. Prass’ angelic voice gives a wonderful sincerity to the song, and the piano backing the lyrics really ties the song together. It is soulful and done with such power behind both the words and music. It seems that. according to Prass, simple was the key. Prass was able to take the simplicity of this song and bring it into a whole new world. It is similar to a Tori Amos feeling of sincerity and beauty.
Acording to Riot Act Media, Prass was noted as saying this about the cover:
“REALiTi” by Grimes. Four chords. Simple lyrics and melodies. I think the world of her. We worked this song out in the studio never having played it before and recorded it like 3 times through. I think it works although she’s probably going to say “what is this jazz shit” and hate it.”
Side By Side will the be the follow-up to Prass’ first LP which gained a substantial amount of critical acclaim and helped to really put her name out into the music world.
According to a press release from Riot Act Media, “REALiTi” is not the only cover that will be featured on the anticipated EP. There will also be covers of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Sound of Silence” as well as “Caught Up in the Rapture” by Anita Baker. The singer is no stranger to covers. She even covered a version of Slayer’s “Raining Blood”.
With the praise that followed her first initial debut, it seems that fans of Prass, as well as newcombers to the soul-filled singer/songwriter, will not be let down by Side By Side.
