Swedish death metal band At The Gates have released a new video for their song “The Night Eternal” today.
The track was released last year as the closing song on the band’s newest album At War With Reality, which released via Century Media Records.
At The Gates worked again with Costin Chioreanu, who had collaborated on the artwork for At War With Reality and the band’s “Heroes And Tombs” video, to create the video for “The Night Eternal.” Chioreanu put his most in-depth and challenging animation yet into the release.
The video features eerie black and white animations, beginning with a baby mobile and a crib. As the song intensifies, the images get increasingly intense and abstract, including a lot floating heads transcending floating walls.
As the song fades out at the end, the video fades to a peaceful silence with the image of stars in the sky, following a fade to black.
Chioreanu explained the concept behind the video:
The story of “The Night Eternal” speaks about the dark side of human nature and about the tragedy of living now, in a moment when any possible tool for hiding it becomes futile. The Night Eternal is in us, The Night Eternal is what we became, guiding our spiritual evolution using a wrong map, provided by a wrong society. The victim remains lost in a dream of constant need without any perspective of fulfillment.

Though the band just finished up their first North American tour of the season, they recently announced new dates to continue touring in February. Dates can be checked here.
