Metalcore band The Devil Wears Prada have released the music video for their track “Alien,” one of the songs on the Space EP they released in August. The EP has a clear thematic focus, given the title of the album and the first two singles: “Planet A” and “Alien.”
Vocalist Mike Hranica said, “When we first started talking about what would become the Space EP, we knew that the one song that had to be on it was ‘Alien,’ a gnarly song that was about an alien attack,” reports Loudwire.
The video begins with a red filter over what appears to be someone trying to escape, with a loud alarm blaring. It’s reminiscent of something you might see in the Alien movie franchise – a mixture of sci-fi and horror – and it’s probably safe to say that the visuals were influenced by the movies. Suddenly, the song starts with heavy guitars and screaming vocals, while UFOs and diagrams flash on the screen until, finally, we see the band. The imagery in the video switches back and forth between scientific and cinematic. Watch “Alien” for yourself below via YouTube.
Earlier this year, The Devil Wears Prada’s guitarist and one of its original members, Chris Rubey, left the band. Rubey made the decision to leave the group to spend more time with his wife and daughter. While the split wasn’t easy for the band, they found another guitarist to take Rubey’s place during their fall 2015 tour. The current tour ends on November 20 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
