Cassie Ramone, former vocalist and guitarist for the Vivian Girls, has announced that she will be releasing a solo Christmas album on December 11. The first single she has released from the album is a cover of Chuck Berry’s “Run Run Rudolph.”
The album will be called Christmas in Reno and will be distributed by Burger Records, according to Pitchfork. It features 10 holiday tracks, all of which are covers of popular Christmas songs including Elvis Presley’s “Blue Christmas” and Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song.”
Ramone’s rendition of “Run Run Rudolph” has an emphasis on distorted guitar, with her vocals sometimes seeming almost as if they are echoes. Certain aspects of the track are similar to the sounds of She & Him’s Christmas album from 2011, though at least on this song, Ramone’s sound is louder than that of the aforementioned indie duo. The Vivian Girls announced that they were splitting up in January of 2014, and played their final show together in Brooklyn in March of 2014. Ramone has been making her way successfully into a solo career thus far, with a summer 2014 single called “Hangin On” and a place in the NXNE 2015 lineup. It seems as though Christmas in Reno will be the next step in her bright future.
