Red Bull 30 Days in LA – Day 10: – Kiesza at Exchange LA

Red Bull Sound Select’s month long 30 Days in LA festival continued last night at the Exchange LA nightclub in Downtown LA. Since the multi-level club is a favorite in the city for EDM events with some of the biggest DJs in the world, day 10 of the festival had to continue that specialty by including a lineup of artists with strong electronic influences. Phantoms, The Flavr Blue and Kiesza took the stage in the large room and made the crowd dance all night with their upbeat tracks.

Phantoms and The Flavr Blue were the openers of the night, and they did not disappoint. It was easy for the crowd to get into the rhythm of their songs and dance along due to the electronic pop feel of the songs. Coupled with strong mesmerizing light shows, the high-production of the visuals made the audience feel like they were still attending one of the typical events that Exchange LA usually hosts on weekends.

When the openers finished, Kiesza was welcomed to the stage with thunderous applause. She walked down the staircase leading to the stage and cheered along with the crowd. She was happy to be in Los Angeles performing at Exchange LA for the first time.

She opened her set with “Give It To The Moment” and danced for every song of the night. Two backup dancers accompanied her as they ran through choreography after choreography. Her dances were reminiscent of routines from the 90’s and 00’s but they worked well with high energy.

She talked about her next song in the set and said it’s about being defenseless against a boy. She then began to sing “Vietnam.”

After performing three more additional songs with no rest to her powerful voice, she slowed the room down by singing “So Deep,” one of her soulful ballads off her latest album that hypnotized the crowd. She then continued to serenade the crowd by performing the title track off her album “Sound of a Woman,” another one of her slower songs.

To bring the crowd back into the groove, she turned the pace back up with “Giant In My Heart” in which she took a moment to introduce her backup dancers and allow both of them to display a quick solo routine to the audience.

Kiesza then stopped the music and told an anecdote about how she met Jack U in Ibiza and contributed to the formation of the group comprised of Skrillex and Diplo. That segue led into her beginning “Take U There” to which the crowd went absolutely insane for. This was one of the biggest songs of the year and it showed in the enthusiasm of the room when she sang the first few chords. Near the end of the song, Kiesza did a walking handstand for the crowd that put everybody in a good mood to see something so skillful onstage.

She ended her set with “Hideaway” before she thanked everybody for coming out to see her. To be thankful to her fans, she grabbed a sign from one of the attendees he was holding up all night and signed it.

Kiesza rocked the stage at Exchange LA cementing her status as one of the great acts in the electronic genre.
