The Walkmen’s Walter Martin Announces Arts & Leisure Album For January 2016 Release

Still in the wake of last-year’s kid-oriented solo-LP, We’re All Young Together, the Walkmen‘s Walter Martin just unveiled the terms of his second solo-outing, Arts & Leisure.  Slated for release on January 29, via his own record label: Ile Flottante Music, the album enlists the talents of fellow Walkmen bandmate/drummer, Matt Barrick to provide solid-&-staid backbone, while the mixing-skillset of Phil Ek (the Shins, Fleet Foxes) is brought to task in order to better flesh-out Martin’s own luminous recordings.

According to a recent press-release, Martin prodigiously showcased his multifaceted abilities as he played the:

“drums, guitar, upright bass, piano, bass harmonica, trombone, organ, mandolin, xylophone, slide whistle, glockenspiel, and just about every noise-maker and percussion instrument you can imagine.”

In a statement concerning his writing process for the new record, Martin said:

“Through writing songs about rattlesnakes and chimpanzees, I figured out how to write lyrics that express my inner self in a voice that’s indistinguishable from how I naturally talk and joke around.  That was huge for me.  Thankfully I was able translate it to non-animal subject matters.”
