Casualties Of Cool Announce Self-Titled Album And DVD Full Release For January 2016

Partially funded by the crowdfunding site, PledgeMusic, Canadian country-rockers: Casualties of Cool will issue their self-titled debut effort for worldwide release on January 15.  Having already seen its initial release in 2014, the 2-CD’s will now come fully-clad with a brand-new bonus live DVD.  The DVD features an entire live-set filmed at London’s majestic Union Chapel during the string of shows in support of the record.

An insightful concept-album that is the brainchild of Canadian musicians: Devin Townsend and Che Aimee Dorval, Casualties of Cool issues a lonely traveler who is ambiguously lured to a sentient planet, feeding on the traveler’s own fear.  Finding solace from an old radio and later a phonograph, the ominous traveler is ultimately forced to confront his fear; in doing so, he finds the strength to overcome it, thereby liberating a woman held prisoner inside the planet and freeing his very soul from within.

During an interview, Townsend details the broad-strokes of what comprises Casualties of Cool:

Casualties of Cool is a duo with myself and Che.  It sounds like haunted Johnny Cash songs.  Late night music, completely isolated sounding and different than anything I’ve done.  Che sings most of the leads, and it’s probably the truest reflection of who I am in life at this point.”

A lurid video directed by the visionary, Jessica Cope (Storm Corrosion, Steven Wilson), Townsend discusses his perspective concerning “Mountaintop“:

“Here is the video for ‘Mountaintop’, from Casualties of Cool.  I have been a fan of Jessica Copes’ work for a while now, and the opportunity to work with her rose for this album and we are thrilled with the result.  Although the concept of the video is loosely based on the concept of the record, we found it worked better as a standalone piece.”

Townsend continues:

“Che Aimee Dorval and I therefore decided not to have the characters in the video portray us personally.  I hope you enjoy this, I’m so happy to have an opportunity to work with brilliant artists in the career.  I’m very proud of this album and video!”
