Collaborative project EL VY covered “She Drives Me Crazy” by Fine Young Cannibals at their Portland show on Monday.
The project, formed by The National’s frontman Matt Berninger and former Menomena member Brent Knopf, released their first album, Return to the Moon, on Friday.
The first single off the album, “Paul Is Alive,” can be heard here. You can also watch videos for two of the duo’s other tracks, “I’m The Man To Be” and “Need A Friend.”
According to Under the Radar, Monday’s show was the duo’s first full-length live show, which kicked off their North American fall tour. During the show at the Doug Fir Lounge, EL VY performed a surprise cover of “She Drives Me Crazy.”
Fine Young Cannibals originally released the track on their The Raw & the Crooked in 1988. They released it as a single the following year.
Under the Radar also commented although Berninger’s baritone voice is way different than the high-pitched voice of Fine Young Cannibals vocalist Roland Gift, the cover was still a success.
You can watch the fan-filmed footage of the performance below.
